ART PROJECT!

The next time I am feeling crafty (which happens about, oh, once a year), I am definitely making this wall hanging… hopefully it will turn out better than those DIY hex nut bracelets everyone got so excited about a few months ago (mine just looked like I was awkwardly wearing half of Ace Hardware’s inventory on my wrist).

I think the hearts might be:

• Dubai (obviously)
• Yerevan, Armenia (because although Alex and I met in Dubai, we didn’t become “us” until a last-minute weekend trip to Yerevan in the summer of ‘09… what can I say, we got swept up in the post-Soviet romance of it all)
• London (where we both went to grad school, separately and years apart, and where Alex spent several years of his childhood)
• Washington, DC (where I went to university, met most of the people who are my dearest friends to this day, and cemented my escape from the south… even though I now romanticize the south and fantasize about moving back - WHATEVER, IDENTITY IS CONTEXTUAL)
• Nicosia, Cyprus (where Alex went to high school, and the closest thing he has - given he grew up in 11 different countries - to a “hometown”)
• Ohio (because the state reminds me of my family’s hard-working, down-to-earth, mid-western-slash-immigrant roots in case I ever start to feel highfalutin … that, and the lasting impact of Ohio favorites like Skyline Chili, Antonio’s Pizza, Nana’s meatballs and Bampa’s kielbasa casserole on my generally “middle America frat boy” culinary preferences)
• Nashville, Tennessee (where my parents live, and where I dream of owning a farmhouse someday)
• Paso Robles, California (where Alex’s parents live, and where his grandparents own and run their family’s vineyard - holla!)
• A blank heart - that we may keep traveling forever! (awwww… gag)
