All The Caffeine
This rambling post, in bullet-point form, brought to you by CAFFEINE! I didn’t drink much coffee when I was chillaxing during the Month of Gubbi, so this morning after a cup at home, a travel mug in the car, and a large “Reindeer Brew” at Caribou with a colleague, I’m buzzing with excitement about the following things:
- It’s nice to wear work outfits again, especially these shoes from Target. Not only are they the perfect cute, flattering nude pumps, but they are suuuuuuuper comfortable and I just effortlessly pranced a half-mile to and from Caribou in them. Plus, being That Girl in $29.99 shoes gives me immense personal satisfaction.
- Leftover Lasagna Soup for lunch… dreamy! And seasonally appropriate, since it dipped all the way down to 65 F last night.
- The corporate tech support hotline at my new job. Rather than connecting me with, say, Karthik in Bangalore, it leads directly to a stable of corn-fed All-American IT geeks in Nebraska. It’s so amazing. I have already called like five times this week just for the thrill of chatting with proper Americans: “OH HI ZACHARY, IT’S GUBBI IN DUBAI AGAIN. HOW IS THE WEATHER IN OMAHA TODAY?!”
- The 19-20 mile run I have planned for this weekend! I said it on Tumblr so now it will happen. I was pretty crushed at the end of 17 last week but maybe I will drink THIS MUCH COFFEE beforehand and then it will be awesome. [Jazz hands.]
- Dinner date tonight at Royal China, the latest addition to Dubai’s crowded trendy-restaurant-ripped-off-from-London scene, followed by drinks at the new(ish) Ritz-Carlton.
- The fact that we are headed Stateside for Christmas in twelve days. True story: as recently as this weekend, I thought we weren’t going to be able to go home for the holidays this year because tickets on Emirates cost THREE THOUSAND OF THE AMERICAN DOLLARS EACH, and since we’re going for such a short time it didn’t make sense to do a cheaper indirect route with lots of layovers. But lo and behold, we found direct flights on Etihad, the airline of our fair neighboring emirate to the south, for a much more reasonable price, so you heard it here first: Abu Dhabi saved Christmas.
That’s all. [Twitch, twitch.] Peace in the Middle East!
