Gubbi Says: Watch This Movie

So guys, what are you doing for the next 4 months? How about running 4,300 miles through 6 countries across Africa - the equivalent of 170 marathons in 111 days? Because, you know, people do that.
I don’t know how much press Running the Sahara got when it was released at home - I had downloaded it ages ago, but only got around to watching it during 40+ hours of travel time on my trip to the States a few weeks ago. But wow. Needless to say, if you have not seen it: run, don’t walk (tee hee, get it?!) to your Netflix queue or the iTunes store.
I guarantee you’ll love it. Crazy runners, it’s total distance porn. Travel junkies, there’s amazing footage footage of Mauritania, Mali, and Niger. Anyone else… well, is anyone who’s not interested in running or travel reading my blog? (If so… um, I’m sorry.)
My favorite quote, from Ray Zahab, one of the three guys who did the trip:
“The fact of the matter remains that until not too long ago, I’m just a regular dude who decided to started running. If I was betting in Vegas, I would’ve bet against me for sure on being able to finish. But I was able to finish, I was able to convince myself to finish, and that’s a fact. I ran the miles. I did it. And I learned that any limitations we have are ones we set upon ourselves. If you think you can only run 5 or 10 km, you’ll only run 5 or 10 km. It’s where you set those goals, because really, there are no boundaries. I’m living proof of that, there’s no doubt.”
