Hmmm...
You know you’ve lived in Dubai for too long when you somehow end up on a spam email list for private jet charter deals: Useful, right? But hey, if douchey transport deals are your thing, I also have a yacht coupon that might float your boat… (HA, GET IT?)

In Which I Continue My Quest to Sartorially...
I’m going back to the US again next week for work, and in keeping with my tradition of ironic / inappropriate online shopping in the lead-up to a trip home, I came across these t-shirts from (where else?) Victoria’s Secret PINK: Wait, it gets better… Now, maybe it’s just my wacky messed-up expat sense of humor, but try and tell me I don’t need these to bop...

Love Floats
Obviously, this is what Valentine’s Day looks like in Dubai: poolside dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant (que romantico!), which was unexpectedly dolled-up for the holiday. Frankly, I don’t think there’s any holiday in the year that’s not improved by bedazzled palm trees and floating pool ornaments… but maybe that’s just because I’ve lived here...

I'm Not Crying, You're Crying
Out for an innocent lunch and some errands this weekend, Alex and I happened upon this life-changing work of art: If you think I’m exaggerating when I tell you I almost teared up at its beauty and begged Alex to let me leave a complimentary note for its owner, you clearly do not know my predilections. I’m warning you guys now: the era during which I maintain the willpower NOT to...

Flavors of Arabia

The First Ever
Do you ever type a sentence and then think, “Geez, I am probably the first person to have ever typed that exact combination of words in the entire history of the English language?” I just wrote the following note to my friend Amy, a fellow transplanted Southerner in Dubai, on Gchat: “Okay, so we’ll plan to meet y’all in Kigali on March 18th?” And then...

The Slow Dance of Douchery
Scene - driving to lunch in Dubai yesterday afternoon. Me: Blah blah blah, something inane, blah blah. Alex: [Falls silent and stares off into the distance mid-conversation.] Me: Why so distracty, babe - what’s on your mind? Alex: Oh, nothing… just watching this tailgating Maserati engage in its slow dance of douchery with that Ford Focus up ahead. End scene - cue applause. *** ...

Doha Diaries
Hi internets! After one whole week at home in Dubai following my whirlwind trip to the US, I found out I needed to hit the road again this past Monday for four days of client meetings. Intimidating business travel face is intimidating. All was not lost, however, because this trip involved something y’all know I love… adding a new country to my list! [THE CROWD GOES WILD!!!...
